The self-care step you’re missing.

In our fast-paced world of careers, jobs, and never-ending to-dos, it's easy to get lost in the daily grind. We become so absorbed in our work that we forget to pause to check in with ourselves and ask…

“Hey, you good?” and then it’s like…

But seriously, I trust you have some sort of established self-care routine to make sure you’re feeling the love. 🫶 Maybe it’s getting your nails done, working out, talking to your therapist, or taking an extra long shower while the kids sleep.

But, when did you last stop to check on your professional journey and choices? You’re on a career path that seems to be serving you. So you’re actively pursuing a promotion or asking for more responsibilities. But deep down— are you truly happy and fulfilled?

This is why adding a career checkup to your self-care routine is a MUST. It’s pressing pause and trying to understand whether you’re on the right path. To make sure… you’re good. ❤️

Think of it as a series of clarity questions to ask yourself every few months:

  • How do I feel doing what I'm doing?

  • Am I excited to start my workday?

  • Or does it feel like a heavy burden?

  • Has my company changed its values or mission?

  • How have my values changed?

  • Does my job still feel aligned with those values?

  • Who am I serving? Does this still feel meaningful?

  • Am I making an impact? How?

These questions can help you better understand where you’re at with your career, whether you’re on the right path, or if it's time to peace out for a change. ✌️

Having these check-ins goes beyond your job. Doing this regularly could help you identify and address any issues before it snowballs into burnout, affecting your health and wellness.

Here are ways to add a career check-up into your self-care regimen (while making it fun!)

1. Find an accountability partner. Having a trusted friend to share insights and ideas could help you sort through what’s in your head. Answer these questions together every few months, preferably over food and wine.🍷

2. Put it into your calendar. Similar to dentist appointments, meetings, or workouts, create a calendar invite so it reminds you to do it. Better yet, make it a recurring event every three months, with the above questions copied in the notes section. 📅

3. Pair it with a reward. Do your career check-up, and then allow yourself to binge-watch your favorite show over ice cream. Or reflect on these questions while sitting in a bubble bath, listening to your favorite tunes. 🎶

You guys… I made the mistake four years ago of waiting until I was running on empty to realize I needed to make a change. This led to severe burnout and stress, which complicated my pregnancy and health (saving that for another time).

These check-ups have been a game-changer for me, especially today as a business owner, to understand what’s most important for me, to help me stay grounded and focused, and to change and course-correct as needed.

This framework is just ONE area of what I do with my clients in my Signature 1:1 Coaching Program, which is all about honing in on your values, understanding your abilities and strengths, and creating actionable steps to design your career around your life and values.

If you’d like to talk more about this or want a thought partner to help you craft your career check-ups, reach out. Always happy to chat.
